Do You Think Sustainability is More Than Solar Panels and Being Environmentally Friendly?

I do!

Hi, I’m Ben!

I founded Sustainable Home Catalyst with the desire to spread the gospel of sustainable home concepts and technologies.

Who am I?

I am an architectural technologist by training and a building science technologist by practice.

My varied background from the different jobs I have had has given me a great understanding of the different systems within buildings, how they all work together and how homes can be made to be more sustainable. My background  includes researching and developing sustainable home technologies and products, working as an aircraft maintenance engineer, cabinet making, concrete work, and welding.

I have been passionate about architecture and sustainable home concepts from a young age. My hope is to share this passion with you through Sustainable Home Catalyst.

What Makes a Home Sustainable?

Environmentally friendly

Using materials, products and construction methods that not only don’t harm the environment but in some cases can be beneficial to the environment.

A sustainably built home can better sustain your health providing you with consistent clean, fresh air and being free from toxic chemicals.

Say goodbye to uncomfortable drafts and uncomfortably hot or cold rooms. With a properly designed and installed heating and cooling system thermal discomfort is a thing of the past.

Financially Sustainable

It’s one thing to be able to afford to buy your home. Paying your monthly utility bills is a different matter. A sustainable home uses less energy to heat, cool, and light. It also uses less water.

My Approach

I’m not just going to fill your mind with warm and fluffy ideas about sustainability.

My goal is to provide you with practical advice that you can apply to your home.

Many sustainable home concepts are best applied during the design and construction phase of a home. Don’t lose hope though. There is always something that you can do to make your current home sustainable as well.

My goal is to provide you with the basic concepts that make a home sustainable. I will then build upon those concepts with as many practical, cost effective solutions as possible to make your current or future home more sustainable.
